Oh my god, the DISRESPECT putting a photo of Yaya Han, who has revolutionized cosplay as a hobby and a career and has her own fucking fabric line and pattern line, over voiceover about girls who just “put their boobs out”…. you should be ashamed and embarrassed.
Stop f**** crying. Cosplay got popular and the people that aren't cashing in are whining about it. Ugh. it's like they want full empowerment to do whatever they want until some other girl is doing better than them and then they call it sexual ization like f*** off

Feel like a lot of people in this docu and in the comments were and still are judgemental of sexier cosplays. I am a cosplayer that does i guess "regular" and "sexy" cosplays along with some boudoir shoots. I see all cosplay as valid because this is a community about expressing yourself and your love for whatever character you are cosplaying. Boudoir shoots are super empowering especially for girls who do not have a perfect supermodel body. I have had very bad body image issues my whole life since I am a bit chubbier than the average girl. Cosplay and especially sexy cosplay has shown me how beautiful I am. I do have self respect even when doing my sexier cosplays. Self respect is literally defined as having pride and confidence in oneself. I am proud of my body and I feel confident in it. I have gained that through cosplay! I do agree that a lot of people feel as though they have to be a "lewd cosplayer" to be popular and the community has very much shifted towards that. Though that should not give you reason to hate on sexy and lewd cosplayers who are having fun and enjoying what they are doing.
Please consider re-doing this documentary and portraying all parts of cosplay correctly.

You guys really just used a picture of Yaya Han, one of the hardest working and influential cosplayers who been working for 20 years paving the way for many other cosplayers, has her own line of patters, fabrics, and trims in stores, etc… as an example of a "lazy cosplayer that just puts her boobs out."
Just for people a little sad who need to escape reality.. Sad really!

" the fantasy" slant on the piece seems to have slanted it towards the sexuality and lewdness of the hobby. there are also male, trans, and people of color that cosplayer…. look for them for your next survey of the community.
This doc doesn’t touch on so many key points that should of been mentioned, the fact that cosplay of all forms.. sexier/full armor builds/ even just lingerie and cat ears.. doesn’t show how those shoots and cosplays are helping the cosplay community as a whole. Artists/prop builders/cat ear makers/online pattern sellers.. literally every sub category and smaller business is thriving due to the rise in popularity of the cosplay scene. There are cosplayers making a living off of creating patterns for other people to use and buy, yaya being shown for her heavy cleavage at the beginning is a god for helping fabrics/other materials being much more widespread and easy to use. To boil the sexier side of cosplay down to likes and comments on social is very basic, and the fact that there was no male in here either, when so many amazing male cosplayers that do great characters, both fully clothed and in sexier get ups isn’t really bringing justice to this. It felt very one sided, and just felt like boiling down girls that do a sexier type of cosplay as not good enough/ruining it for armor builds, when some of the heaviest views videos online are all extremely massive armor cosplayers.
It's a shame that for male cosplayers it be great or nothing. Little option for sexy guy cosplay.
While I appreciate that you did a documentary on the cosplay community, it saddens me that you cut so much down to just "pit the community against eachother: Sex sells"
I know that there was more filmed, " It strongly focus on the sexuality of cosplay even though we talked about so much more than just sexuality but, all of that got cut due to only having a 20 minute documentary." a quote from someone in this. Please consider doing a documentary actually focusing on the actual community and more about the crafting side, not just do you think sexy cosplay is cosplay.
Sexy cosplayers are part of the community just as much as covered up cosplayers. We are trying to bring our community together and its such a hard fight, there was a lot in this that hurt that battle. These girls are all amazing and work hard, theyre all just as worthy no matter how much they wear.

If you're only doing cosplay for attention, then maybe you are the problem. You want a male perspective? Almost any women is cosplay is sexy! You could be dressed as the hunchback and I'm still probably going to find you attractive

Having a background in graphic novel illustration I can honestly say that I have alot a respect and love for women in the cosplay community. I applaud them for the attention to detail found in the creativity we see in the various costumes. I think that its beneficial as well the strong sense of empowerment that comes from the work that goes into making the costumes , which is a form of fashion , and what you bring to that character. Is it sexy , yes , but it goes much deeper than that it's a form of celebrating the fandom of the beautiful world of comics of which I have always been a fan. ☆
My boys and I love to go to cons but it does make me concerned about the hyper-sexualized trend in cosplay. Success should not be dictated by the amount of clothing worn or not worn.

The best guy cosplayer Jokers and Batmen are overshadowed by the most mediocre girl showing off her boobs its degrading to both honestly.
Imagine being so unaware of the cosplay community and the major players in it that you use a photo of one of the most prolific professional cosplayers who essentially DEFINES craftsmanship for the community and has worked tirelessly to share her knowledge with cosplayers worldwide so they’d feel empowered to make their own costumes as an example of someone uses their boobs for likes.

I like your body
I'm a pretty small-time cosplayer, but was hoping to engage in the discussion as well. When it comes to the topic of cosplay, there has always been a long running divide between non-sexy and sexy cosplay. Personally, I've found the latter to be rather boring at times due to it's prevalence, not unlike that of the ecchi genre within anime/manga. While there are many who find the more lewd content liberating, there have been times where the spark–the love for a franchise/character just isn't there, and that can be pretty disheartening. Love it or hate it though, the mantra of "sex sells" will always exist in some form or fashion. That being said, I can understand much of the frustration people may have to put their heart/soul into their craft only to be pushed aside in favor of those focusing on sex appeal. Unfortunately, it happens at cons and even online, which gets many into the headspace that they have to make sexy content in order to be successful. Doubly frustrating if you're also pushed aside due to things like race, gender, etc on top of it all.
With all this in mind, what would a possible solution be to bridge the gap between non-sexy/sexy as well as the enthusiasts from the less familiar mainstream audience?
In the future, hopefully there will be more thorough interviews with a wider range of people that highlight not only what cosplay means to the interviewee, but also why they do what they do. What's the process like for coming up with a costume, pose, or alteration? A mini breakdown of things while also a neat little origin story would be great to hear more about.
If sexy is their shtick, what ways could that be expanded upon? Not everyone likes fanservice or pornographic(if it reaches that level or is viewed that way) content, but is there a proper balance that could be better encouraged that emphasizes qualities/characteristics you or others find attractive through different mediums or alternative means?

I love cosplaying!! It's my favorite hobby!! I can relate to it!! I've been going to Comic Con for 4 years!! Hopefully this will be my 5th year!!!! And if not…I'll still take pictures and do videos!!! And make more costumes!!

Cosplay means something special to me and it has a very different type of creative way for me to express what I enjoy. Since a young kid, I have always loved to dress up and the love I have for cosplay is absolutely amazing. My skills have improved over the years and most of all it helps me getaway from the stresses of life.
Cosplay helps me with my mental health, but also helps me form my suicidal past. Cosplay gives me the power to be who I am and lets me be myself.

I was very worried before I watched this, because I’m a cosplayer and I have friends who are furries who have watched documentaries about “furries” but they shine the light on them in a bad way and do no research. This documentary is amazing and catches the spirit of cosplay. It really helped me come out of my shell and it makes me smile seeing other people feel the same
